Yesterday I had the fortune to be invited by Adelaide's electronic music station Fresh FM as a guest for their 'Open Air' show.
I had a really good time talking to the host DT and producer Tom about keeping it local and supporting Adelaide electronic music.
As well as interviewing me on all sorts of topics, I was proud for them to play a 'world premiere' of my newest track, "Bass, Synth, Arpeggio...". Today I have uploaded the track and it is available for a free download below:
3 tracks in total were played an they were:
A-DUFF vs Quench: Broken Dreams (also a free download on my soundcloud).
A-DUFF: Bass, Synth, Arpeggio...
RIKKI: Back Twang (A-DUFF remix)
I hope you all enjoyed the show and thanks to Fresh FM again for all their support!

New Remix 'Back Twang' by RIKKI
*POST UPDATED WITH PREVIEW*
Following on from my release, 'The Ghost Music' with Deep Garnet Records, I was asked to do a remix for Scottish producer Rikki with the following brief;
With an upcoming trip to China away from my studio and just one unofficial remix under my belt, I had less than a month to find the time to put this together. My remix has some cool sound effects, a rambling deep bass line and a nice little arpeggio hooking it all together. I am very happy with how it turned out - and so is Rikki by all accounts. Thanks for the kind words Rikki!
RIKKI: 'Back Twang' will be released on Beatport on March 2.

“ATTENTION, Inner-Flight ship! Attention! You are ordered to land at the Control Station on Deimos for inspection. Attention! You are to land at once!" The metallic rasp of the speaker echoed through the corridors of the great ship. The passengers glanced at each other uneasily, murmuring and peering out the port windows at the small speck below, the dot of rock that was the Martian checkpoint, Deimos.
"What's up?" an anxious passenger asked one of the pilots, hurrying through the ship to check the escape lock."We have to land. Keep seated." The pilot went on. "Land? But why?" They all looked at each other. Hovering above the bulging Inner-Flight ship were three slender Martian pursuit craft, poised and alert for any emergency. As the Inner-Flight ship prepared to land the pursuit ships dropped lower, carefully maintaining themselves a short distance away. "There's something going on," a woman passenger said nervously. "Lord, I thought we were finally through with those Martians. Now what?"

Promo Pictures
A couple of weeks back I was fortunate enough to have some promotional shots done in Adelaide city.
Shot by the wonderful Flavia of Flavia Maria Photography, I had a great night posing like a tool and working the camera angles.
It takes a professional and much editing to make me look good - see for yourself how they turned out on my promo gallery page. All but one of the photos on that page were shot by Flavia and much thanks goes to her for her commitment and great shots.

The woods were artificial. Some kind of park. But the park was wild and overgrown. A dense jungle of twisted plants. Everything growing in confusion. The park was empty. No one was there. By the position of the sun he could tell it was either early morning or late afternoon. The smell of the flowers and grass, the dampness of the leaves, indicated morning. It had been late afternoon when the tornado had picked him up. And the sky had been overcast and cloudy. Cole considered. Clearly, he had been carried a long way. The hospital, the men with white faces, the odd lighting, the accented words he had caught—everything indicated he was no longer in Nebraska—maybe not even in the United States.
Some of his tools had fallen out and gotten lost along the way. Cole collected everything that remained, sorting them, running his fingers over each tool with affection. Some of the little chisels and wood gouges were gone. The bit box had opened, and most of the smaller bits had been lost. He gathered up those that remained and replaced them tenderly in the box. He took a key-hole saw down, and with an oil rag wiped it carefully and replaced it.

2014 in Review
Here is a status update of how things have been progressing since I began this project.
1. My single has been remixed and will be ready for release on Deep Garnet Records in mid-late January.
2. I have been asked to do a remix of another of the label's to be released tracks and that is nearly complete. The original isn't really what I would go out of my way to listen to, but I was asked to do a deep, dark and non-dancefloor orientated remix. I saw it as a huge challenge. Especially considering I have only ever done one other remix before - a-duff vs quench: broken dreams 2014 - something I was itching to get my teeth into ever since I first got my Maschine Studio.
3. My soundcloud account now has 28 followers and has had 435 listens.
4. I have updated my studio with a set of Pioneer S-DJ50X speakers. I can't wait to have a listen and I'm sure it will be a welcome addition to use these monitors instead of my beautiful and trusty Audio-Technica ATH-M50x which I was pleasantly surprised to find probably my favourite Australian DJ/Producer ever in Jaytech also uses them!
What are my plans in 2015?
I have some promising non-breaks projects I would like to get out as well as a couple more 8-bit inspired tech-breaks goodness. A lot depends on my upcoming releases with Deep Garnett Records. Hopefully I can crack 100 soundcloud followers in 2015 and get some of my tracks played by some cool dj's in their sets and some local radio airplay to boot!
Signing out,
Aaron

Getting Signed
Well I woke up today particularly excited after receiving an email from a label in Europe with the offer to sign up my latest track - a little trippy breaks number.
I have learnt a lot from this whole process and know I still have a lot still to learn. This is what I can share right now:
I only got this opportunity after building some relationships with a few different dj's and producers - none of whom I have met in person before. I started following them on soundcloud, liking their facebook pages, listening to their online radio shows (and chatting in the accompanying live forum feeds) and giving my feedback on their tracks.
I eventually got through by releasing my track on soundcloud and in the same half hour starting a conversation with a couple of these 'hero mentors'. They both said they knew a guy who would like my sound and offered to help put me in touch with them. They also told me to take my track down from soundcloud (or made private) as labels want them to be exclusive. As mentioned in paragraph 1, I have since received that email.
I have noticed that:
1. Not all labels are into your sound and they might knock you back not because it is a bad track, but because it doesn't fit them.
2. It is good to get your track mastered and produced as sweetly and polished as you possibly can - in my case it took 2 months using time on weekends and long evenings.
3. Even so, the mastering and atmospheric feel of my track is still clearly not professional. The label doesn't care (that much). They will master it for me.
Next step is to send through the track in 24 bit WAV format with no compression or limiter on the master as well as sample packs for the remixer. I think I shall have to dropbox all that... I shall also get a copy of the contract to sign by post.
I'll keep you all updated as I learn more.
